Rey couldn't sleep. After going to Portalocity and trying to talk to them about getting home (which had led to a whole thing about which universe she was from and they were lucky she hadn't just burst into tears right there) and finding out that couldn't happen today, she'd had to resign herself to staying here at least tonight. And now she was staying in a strange room with a roommate, when she'd just spent the last ten years on her own, and she brought nothing with her except what she'd had on her when she arrived, and she was so worried about not getting back...

But, this was what she had to deal with at the moment. It didn't mean this was permanent, and maybe tomorrow she would find some other way to get back, and she was going to cling to that.

As quietly as possible, she sat up in the dark and went to the desk to find something to write with. When she found a pencil in the drawer, she returned to the bed that she wasn't thinking of as hers yet, and drew a little tally mark on the wall.

If she had to be here at all, she didn't want to lose count.

thatwaslucky: (the scavenger)
Today had started out like any other. Rey had packed up her gear onto her speeder and gone straight out to start picking through the remains of crashed ships and the like for anything worth trading. She'd decided on a smaller ship, something she thought others might have just passed over, thinking more valuable parts might be elsewhere.

A while into today's search, Rey was beginning to think that someone else had either gotten here before her, or there was nothing worth finding, and she was wasting her time. She couldn't come back with nothing, so she pulled parts that she could maybe get something for. Either way, unless she could get somewhere else today, she would probably have to resign herself to being hungry.

And then she saw the light below. She walked further into the ship, hoping that it was something still operational that she could use, but it seemed to get bigger the closer she got. Part of her thought she should turn back, but she had to at least see what it was, and when she got to the source she saw that the light wasn't attached to anything. It was just hanging there, in the middle of the ship. So Rey cautiously reached out to touch it-

And just like that, she was gone.

[Establishy, whee!]

Hello! This is maybe the fastest I've ever seen/read something and then apped, but IT HAD TO HAPPEN, THIS CHARACTER WAS PRACTICALLY WRITTEN FOR ME.

Anyway, spoiler-free rundown: Rey is coming to Fandom pre-canon, as a 15-year-old who was abandoned on a desert planet called Jakku when she was five. She's worked as a scavenger, getting parts from ships and things that were downed onplanet during the war. She's used to being on her own, is good at hand-to-hand combat, and is pretty good at machinery.

That's pretty much all I can say without spoiling it, so if you haven't watched the movie yet, maybe don't click on the cut tags. Spoilers galore.

star wars, now with different canon than you've seen IG before! )
