The Falcon was, in fact, returned the same day, albeit a little worse for wear. Rey had no idea who Hondo had recruited to fly her ship but they had no business in there. There were a lot of repairs that had to be made, both to the hull and the weirdly sparking areas inside, including one that was far too close to a porg nest for her liking.

After spending much longer than she wanted on making sure they were set to fly, Chewie's apology came in the form of finishing up while she and Silver got to actually head out on their own for a while, leaving him and BB-8 behind. And all right, the closest place to eat wasn't actually that far from where they were parked, but that was not the point.

"Sorry about all that," Rey said as they found seats. "I kind of expected that all this would have gone at least a little smoother."

"That's why General Organa wants us to stay scattered. Build things up slowly from all around the galaxy. I know they're working on a location that could support all of us, but this place for instance is to find supporters," she explained.

"Ah, makes sense," Silver said. "We were just trying to take over the one island so that makes things easier. We just left some men behind to build up the myth of Captain Flint and Long John Silver to get people on our side."

That actually wasn't unlike what was going to end up happening here, though Rey wouldn't know about it yet.

"How'd that work out?" she wondered.

"Pretty well. They're scared enough of Flint to not side with England," Silver said. "And they like me enough to believe whatever I tell them."

"Is that something I should take as a warning?" Rey asked, only half joking.

The thing was, she actually trusted him enough to think he'd be honest there.

"I don't think you're as easily swayed as the crew are," Silver said. "They're a group that craves leadership. So they're content with Flint telling them what to do and me explaining why they should do it. You're not that type."

"Oh no. I'm still pretty new to even listening to other people."

So have fun with that.

"I would have never guessed," he teased.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'd like to think I've been pretty accommodating," Rey smiled.

[long_memory]

"You have been," he agreed. "But I think I've gone easy on you so far."

[thatwaslucky]

"Are you planning to not go easy on me?" she asked.

[long_memory]

Silver pretended to think about that. "I think for now I'll keep going easy on you. But you should know I'm capable of being very annoying."

"I'm finding that very hard to believe," she told him.

[long_memory]

Silver laughed. "You clearly think too highly of me."

Rey shrugged. "You haven't given me reason not to."

"This is true," he agreed. "But the pirate thing usually makes people think twice."

[thatwaslucky]

"If it was something you were doing now we might have to talk about some things," she said. "But if that's not what you want to be doing I'm not going to hold it against you."

It was a theme with her.

"It's not," he assured her. "I was just in it for money."

Which was true, at first. His love for the power of it came later.

"I imagine that's also why Chewie got into smuggling?"

She shook her head. "The person who... had the ship last, Han, he saved Chewie. Wookiees have this lift debt thing, so he followed Han i to it. And then into the Rebellion after that."

Silver suddenly respected Chewie a lot more. A life debt was something Silver could never do.

"That's very noble of him," Silver said. "And now he fights alongside you."

"He's loyal to Han's family." And Rey had gotten grandfathered in there. "The Falcon really should be his, but he was happy to stay the copilot and deferred to me."

"Well clearly he thinks you're talented," Silver said with a smile. "And I understand the appeal of being a copilot."

"See, you have plenty to bond with him over," she smiled back.

"Oh I'm sure," he said, chuckling. "For now I will accept him just tolerating me."

"It starts somewhere," she told him, and teased, "Besides, Finn will be the really protective one."
