MCA #1- Wednesday evening

For whatever reason, the Skywalker-Solos- including adoptees- had rough Augusts. Rey herself had lost four people in that month a couple years apart. Which was why in talking to Anakin, they'd decided maybe they needed to get people together for some commiseration. Also drinking.

Rey didn't have people over very often but it wasn't like there was a ton of stuff to clean in her stupid-giant apartment. As long as the kitchen worked and there were places to sit (the furniture was mostly mermaid!) it was probably fine.


[For said Skywalker-Solos. Because we have spent a lot, a lot of years being mean.]

"I'm still coping," Luke said with a tiny smile. "Our...heritage...isn't widely known and people still don't have a lot of nice things to say about Darth Vader."

Rey paused, and asked, "Has Anakin told you about me?"

Luke shook his head, eyes fixed on hers. "He doesn't tend to share."

"Don't drink when I say this," she warned, frowning. "Palpatine was my grandfather."

She shrugged.

Luke choked on nothing anyway. Oh, the horrifying mental images.

"I'm so sorry," he finally said, completely sincere.

"I sort of don't care anymore?" Rey admitted. "But it took me a long time to deal with what that meant, or what I thought it meant, and everything I'd known about my life till then."

"How did you find out?" Luke asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"Another version of you told me," she said. "I think it helped, after all the denial."

[tatooine_doofus]

"I hope I broke it to you gently," Luke said.

[thatwaslucky]

"You did," she told him. "You knew what it's like."

After the whole bit where he told her to get off his lawn.

"I do," Luke agreed. "And you're never just who you came from, but it's definitely something you still have to account for."

"I think I worried about that too much," she said with a frown. "What about you?"

[tatooine_doofus]

"I don't think I would call it a worry any more," Luke admitted. "Just an awareness. If I pull too strongly from the Force, or start to feel out of control of my emotions, I stop. There's too much history not to take the Dark Side seriously."

Rey blinked. "I almost can't imagine you not having control."

Blame her version.

"I haven't been doing this all that long," Luke said easily.

"I know an older you," she pointed out.

[tatooine_doofus]

"And that's reassuring to me, knowing I eventually get a handle on this," Luke said.

Yeah, about that...

"You don't feel like you do?"

[tatooine_doofus]

Luke shook his head, taking a sip from his glass. "I'm still learning. While teaching."

"You've got students?" she asked, interested.

[tatooine_doofus]

"Well," Luke said, looking a little embarrassed, "right now only Leia. Mara was very unreceptive."

"Is it difficult and confusing?" Rey asked quickly. Because she found it difficult and confusing.

[tatooine_doofus]

"Yes to both," Luke said ruefully.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm training someone- when we actually have time- and I have no idea what I'm doing," Rey said. "I'm sure it's all wrong."

"It really does feel that way, doesn't it?" Luke said, eyes wide.
