Jakku- Sunday
Rey spent the night on the ship. It was a Ghtroc Industries 690 freighter, an older version of a ship she'd flown in her simulator. There was a lot of damage, including missing landing equipment and gashes in the hull, but was a ship, with plenty she could sell, and that was before she figured out that it had power. It worked.
She'd have to do work on it, but she could fix it up, and she could only imagine what Unkar would pay for this. She'd figured a ship could get herself maybe five hundred portions… this could make her rich by Jakku standards. As a bonus, there was equipment she could either salvage, or keep for herself. She found a water purifier, and half the rations were spoiled but the rest were okay, and she got her first real breakfast (again, by Jakku standards) since leaving Fandom. The shower didn't have water, but the sonics worked, so she got to use that and had attempted to sleep in a real bed again, though she found the ones in the cabins here too soft, and she slept on the floor.
As a bonus, the crew had apparently escaped via the now-missing pods, and Rey didn't have to be surprised by any corpses. Even if they weren't coming back, though, she left their clothing and personal effects alone. Just like she wouldn't have wanted anyone rifling through her personal things while she was gone, she wouldn't do it to anyone else.
She'd also found memetic sheets, used for cloaking things, and while it told her that the previous owners had probably not been operating legally, she could use it to hide her find. It took most of the morning to drape them over the ship in a way where the wind wouldn't uncover it, but you would almost have to be on top of the freighter before you realized there was something there besides desert.
Among her finds were a paper notebook and a few styluses, which was fine with her. She was used to using that here. Today's project would be making a running list of everything on the ship: what worked, what didn't, what could be repaired, what she'd have to salvage from other vessels, what she might have to trade or buy for. The biggest problem she found right away: there was no fuel. Without fuel, there was no way she'd be able to fly her little freighter into Niima.
That was something she actually wanted. She wanted to be the ship that everyone looked up and stared at. She wanted to see the expressions on everyone's faces as she came down the ramp and they saw it was her. She wanted to see Unkar's big eyes open wide and his face puff up in surprise, to hear him stammer as he made offer after offer for the ship, her ship, before he agreed.
Five hundred portions? Try five thousand portions, Unkar. Try five thousand portions and a new speeder, a new set of tools, a spare generator, and the first pick of salvage that comes in for the next two- no, four, no, five years.
She wanted that very much.
Which meant she had to get to work.
