Corellia- late Thursday night

Rey was one of the people that tended to stay on the Falcon even when she could have quarters elsewhere. It was comfortable. It felt like the closest she would get to home these days. And for the most part, it was quiet. Tonight most of the Resistance was staying on Corellia, where they'd split up in the morning. Rey would set them off to their next stop and then portal off to Fandom until someone- probably Finn and Poe- called her back, she didn't have any weird terrible feelings about any of it, everything was okay, and she still couldn't sleep.

While there was always work to do on the ship, it was loud, and she didn't want to wake anyone else who'd stayed aboard. Instead, she made her way to the lounge area, where she had some space, and switched on the practice lightsaber to run through last week's forms for a tiny porg audience that she still pretended wasn't there.

She had just gotten past the complicated part when she heard a slightly surprised voice say, "You made a new one."

Rey startled a little, and switched the blade off like she'd been caught doing something wrong. She didn't even know where that instinct came from. "Oh. No," she said quickly. "This is a practice one I've been using in Fandom. I didn't want to get rusty."

She hadn't mentioned that she had a new teacher. She'd meant to. And then she simply hadn't been able to bring it up. She didn't know what kind of reaction it would get, and considering her truly horrible track record with people lately, she'd like to get through at least a little while with Anakin without him dying or leaving her before she potentially set off an emotional thermal detonator at home. For now, she was just… vague.

"Good. You shouldn't," Leia said. "You don't need to stop on my account."

"I don't… I'm not sure how this is that interesting to watch," Rey said.

"It's plenty interesting," Leia told her, taking a seat on the dejarik table bench. "You're not the first Jedi I've ever seen, Rey."

"I'm not a Jedi," Rey said, not completely able to hide the note of exasperation in her voice. She was tired. Was she supposed to be tired already?

Leia considered that, and said, "Okay. Let's see it anyway."

This was nervewracking, and Rey didn't like being put on the spot. But, she also remembered Anakin's question of what people had wanted from Luke, and what they still wanted from Leia. Did Leia get this about her? Was that why she kept poking?

All right. If this was a test, Rey would try to pass it.

She normally practiced every day, though it'd been harder this week. She remembered the steps but didn't have them down as well as the others, so she was sure her footwork was a little sloppy and there were a couple parts where she sort of stumbled over it a little. For a precise form, she wasn't doing great at that. But that was practice was for, right?

When she'd finished her run through it, her first instinct was to look over at Leia to see if she had anything to say. The older woman nodded thoughtfully, and said, "Not bad."

She'd also produced some sort of metal ball from somewhere during that time, which had been sitting atop the dejarik table where a porg had been curiously poking at it until Leia picked it up again. "Have you worked with one of these yet?"

"No," Rey said, though she wasn't actually sure what it was.

"Do you want to?"

Somehow with that question, Rey got the feeling that something had changed lately, that if Leia had been testing her, maybe somehow she'd passed. So she answered, "Yeah. I do."
