It was pretty late when Rey knocked on the door to Finn’s cabin, but she hadn't seen him all day and needed to fix that if they were both onplanet at the same time. He was sitting on his bunk looking at a datapad, though it got tossed to the side when he saw her there.
“Hey,” he said, “I haven't seen you all day.”
Rey had to smile at that, but went to sit next to him. “Training.”
“All day?”
“Most of the day, yeah,” she said. “I got cleaned up once I came back in, but otherwise…”
“You know you're going a little too hard with this, right?” Finn asked.
Rey shrugged after a brief moment. “Probably. I just need to get better at this stuff.”
“You're amazing at this stuff,” he assured her. “I don't know why you think you need to be Master level right this second.”
“I don't,” she said.
“Then why put all this pressure on yourself? I know Leia isn't.”
For a second she thought about telling him about the visions. They weren't daily or anything, but they were persistent enough to know that she needed to listen. But she didn't, exactly. “I have this feeling,” she said, “that something’s going to happen soon. And I don't feel ready.”
“I've seen you in action, Rey. If you're not ready, you make yourself ready,” Finn said.
“It's hard to explain,” she said, furrowing her brow. “I just know that it feels big. And when it comes down to it, it's just me. I can't call on all the other Jedi for help, so I have to prepare to do whatever it is on my own, and hope I'm good enough for whatever it is. So I just want to give myself the best chance.”
Finn looked thoughtful, and it almost looked like he was going to say something else before going with, “You know I'll always have your back.”
“I know,” Rey smiled. “Enough about me. Tell me about your day.”
[NFB, NFI!]
