The beach- before sunset

The weather was nice, and Rey made her way to the beach a little early to set up for date night. It wasn't anything fancy, mostly little sandwiches and snacks, some she'd made or put together herself. She had made the pasta salad as she'd been taught (and it was good!), which was maybe more than she'd needed to do, but why should Adrian be the only one to make an effort for this sort of thing?

And once she'd gotten everything set up, she found a place to sit and wait. The beach was pretty this time of day.

Uh...yeah. The beach. Definitely the beach that was taking up all of Adrian's attention, causing his heart to twist slightly in his chest. He approached silently on the back of Bran, alighting down next to her on the sand, and then shooing his broom off to go play on the beach.

Bran loved the beach. So much to sweep!

"Hey there," he said, setting down a container of cupcakes and leaning in to offer a kiss. "This all looks...gorgeous," he said, still one hundred percent definitely talking about the beach.

Rey could tell when he was coming, of course, but she perked up as soon as she saw him.

"Gorgeous might be a little much," she said, and she'd say that even if he wasn't talking about the beach. "The setting does a lot for it. You made cupcakes?"

Of course.

She'd probably say it extra if he hadn't been talking about the beach. Truly, the trials and tribulations of his life.

"You made dinner and set all this up," he said, giving her a warm smile. "Bringing dessert just seemed fair."

There's have been blushing, too!

"I'll never turn it down," Rey said, inviting him to sit on the blanket. "But I couldn't let you do the work for all of our dates."

"It's not work when it makes me happy," he pointed out, wrapping his arm around her. "But also, I appreciate it. That you want to put in the effort, too."

Not that he'd ever have cause to think this relationship was one-sided, but it still made him happy in a way he was careful not to look at too closely when he thought about it.

"You're worth it," she said, leaning into him. "Besides, I needed to show off the pasta."

She wasn't much for showing off. But in this case she sort of had to.

Adrian and Liliana both agreed that Rey could stand to be a little more of a show-off. For different reasons, of course, but the same conclusion.

"I can't wait to try it," he said, unable to not steal another kiss in the interim. "Dinner and relaxation while we watch a gorgeous sunset over the beach." See! Talking about the beach the whole time! "A perfect evening, I think."

"And there's always afterwards," she said, sneaking a kiss of her own. She couldn't let him do all of that, either

"Which leads us to the perfect night," Adrian said, laughing slightly.

And then kissing Rey, which he was in no hurry to end.

Neither was she, even angling herself a little more towards him. This felt perfect. Or maybe it was just him.

When she did pull back, it was to helpfully add, "And morning."

"Well, I certainly can't argue with that logic," he said with a laugh. "Especially since it means I get to make you breakfast."

"And this is why we work so well together," she teased.

[witchoftheflesh]

"We do," Adrian murmured, "we really do. Sometimes I--" He caught himself, and turned that aborted thought into another kiss.

They didn't need to talk about whatever he sometimes did.

They didn't?

Rey wasn't exactly thinking that exactly, but between kisses she did have to ask, "Sometimes you what?"

But did she, though?

Because it felt like diving into regrets and hurt, and for what reason?

Still, she'd asked, and he couldn't not answer. "Imagine if things were different," he said softly.

[thatwaslucky]

She smiled ruefully. "Me, too," she admitted, and kissed him again, lightly. "It's a nice thought."

"One of the best," he said, resting his head against hers. "But thinking about what's real is better still."

[thatwaslucky]

"And here we're planning all the way into tomorrow," she said with a smile, sliding an arm around his back.

Which was all in all safer. If she was being honest, she thought about the what ifs more than sometimes.

Yeah, the 'sometimes' was, uh, less honest than he usually prided himself on being.

"Keep it up, and I might start planning well into the weekend," he teased.

"Oh? I don't have any real weekend plans," she said.

[witchoftheflesh]

"Funny enough, I don't really either," Adrian said, thoughtfully. "...But I'd be happy to make some."

Thankfully, everything was going to be very normal for the whole weekend and the week that followed!

[thatwaslucky]

"There's something to be said for making it up as we go, too," she said, kissing his cheek.

[witchoftheflesh]

"I mean, I'd gotten as far as 'you,' 'this weekend,' and 'my bed' and that was pretty much all I needed to plan," he chuckled.

His voice was softer with neither amusement or laughter when he added, "Just being with you is enough."

"You have me as much as you want me," she said in the same tone.

As long as they didn't think about that too hard.

"You know, I'm finding myself to be very, very greedy all of a sudden," Adrian said, reaching for her once more. His hand drifted up to brush a lock of hair away from her face, then slipped around to cup the back of her head and kiss her again.

In this, too, he intended to be very, very greedy.
