MCA #1- Wednesday evening

Recently, Rey had offered to teach Silver to cook. She wasn't terrific at it or anything, but she could make something simple and edible, which apparently he could not. So tonight was the time to maybe, possibly fix that a little.

She got the ingredients for pasta from her hoarder's pantry and set them all out on the countertops, promising, "I swear this is easy."

"Well then it will be impressive when I manage to screw it up." He had no faith in his cooking skills whatsoever. To be fair, he had plenty of evidence to show for it.

"That would be impressive," Rey said, smiling. "This is kind of just boiling water."

It was possible she didn't know that she was both overestimating and underestimating him here.

"It can't be that easy," he said. "What about the sauce and everything?"

"You buy a jar and heat it up on the stove," she answered.

Honestly that was probably something she could have learned to make herself but the jars had a better shelf life.

"Cooking seems a lot easier in this century." He still had his doubts, but he was impressed with how lazy people had become.

"And in our next lesson, I'll teach you about the microwave," Rey teased, opening a cabinet to get some pots out.

"I know you're not supposed to put metal in it," Silver said, laughing. "Which makes me curious to see what happens when you do."

"Fires," she said, quickly, and concerned. "Fires happen."

"So you're suggesting I don't do that?" he joked. "Even out of scientific curiosity?"

"I would advise against it," Rey told him. "Because I don't want to see you get hurt and because I live across the hall from you."

"Yes that would be putting the whole building in danger, wouldn't it?" he said. "Maybe I'll look it up on YouTube."

He was so happy he discovered that. It answered so many questions for him.

"...I do kind of want to see your reaction to looking that up," Rey realized.

"I believe we can make that happen," Silver said with a smile. "We can lay in bed and watch YouTube later, there's some crazy stuff on there."

Rey's entire experience with YouTube was just looking up instructional videos, but that actually sounded really great. "What kind of stuff?"

"Honestly? A lot of videos of cats doing silly things," he said. "And videos of people whispering that are supposed to make you relax but they just make me uneasy."

"I say we don't watch any whispering videos," Rey said immediately, making a face.

"What about cat videos?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"I like cats. I'll watch their videos," she said with a smile.

[long_memory]

"Oh good," he said, putting a hand over his chest. "I would have had to rethink everything if you didn't like cat videos."

"Who wouldn't like cat videos?" Rey asked, laughing. "Unless they're the ones doing the whispering."

"The purring is sort of comforting?" he tried. "When I was pretending to be a cook I spent a lot of time with a man name Randall--he had a cat that I grew fond of. Betsy was her name, I believe."

"That's cute," Rey said, smiling. I feel like you've really succeeded at something if you get a cat to like you."

"You just have to act standoffish," Silver joked. "Play hard to get."

[thatwaslucky]

"Oh, I cannot do that."

As he knew.

Silver laughed. "And here I thought I was just the exception."
