Somewhere in the Outer Rim- Monday

The missions Rey went on were typically either escorting Leia somewhere, or standard supply runs, things like that. She was used to being the pilot, and then probably getting caught up in something bigger because it was a war and that's how these things went.

And that was what she figured this mission was. Poe and Finn had been going on the hard missions this whole time, and since Chewie was unavailable, Rey thought her job was to be the getaway driver as the boys went on to rescue one of the people who were on the First Order's list of dissidents. Enough so that she'd assumed it would be fine to bring Silver if she needed a second person there.

"So we'll wait here, and you'll comm us when you're on your way out," she said.

Silver could now say he was pretty comfortable with space travel now, even if he felt like he was never going to be useful on these trips. Oh well, he was kind of okay being the eye candy.

"I can handle this sort of mission," he decided. "Just sit here? Can do."

It was right about now that Poe was giving them both weird looks as he stood from his seat.

"This is why we need to get you back here in time for the briefings," he said. "You're coming with us."

He looked over at Rey. "Wait, what?"

"I didn't think I was going on actual missions yet," Rey said, looking back over at Silver. She'd totally go, but she wasn't sure how cool he was with this.

Truth be told, he'd much prefer to be on the ship but if this was the first time this was happening it would be unfair of him to protest. If they had been alone there would have been a conversation, but as it was he just gave her a short nod to indicate it was okay with him.

"You weren't. Now we're showing you the ropes," Poe said, and looked to Silver. "Can you shoot?"

Hopefully? Please?

"If I have to, yes." Let's be real, blasters were way easier to navigate than the guns he was used to.

"Hopefully we won't have to," Finn added quickly. "We're trying for quiet."

"Do you have a blaster?" Poe checked.

He looked over at Rey again. "No, I'm afraid I don't."

Look, he just thought he'd be sitting on the ship.

"We have a couple spares on board," Rey told him. "If you're okay with that."

"Fine," he said, nodding again. "Hopefully I won't have to use it."

"All right, here's the deal," Poe began. "It's easy enough. We're going to rescue this guy. We're going into the facility at shift change so it'll be easier to get around, and they won't be watching the cameras enough to see us take them out. You're backing up me and Finn and doing what we do. Any questions?"

"Sounds easy enough." Which meant it would probably go horribly.

"Do what you do, got it," Rey nodded. She was good at that, no problem.

"All right," Poe said, as he and Finn started out of the cockpit. "Rey, get him his weapon, meet us outside."

"Well this turned out differently than I imagined," Silver said once Finn and Poe were gone. "Are you okay with me coming along?"

"As long as you're okay with going," she told him. She'd be surprised if he wanted to. "I'm sorry, I didn't know this was more than me piloting."

"It's all right," Silver said. "This is a good step forward for you, right?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah," Rey said, smiling a little shyly. "They want me to do things."

For someone who didn't really know her place in this, it felt pretty good.

Silver smiled. "Of course they do. That makes this worth it."

So long as they didn't get shot.

Her smile grew, and she leaned in to give him a kiss before getting up. "All right, weapons, I guess."

"Yes, weapons," he said. "I assume these are just point and shoot, correct? That I can handle at least."

"Yes. Make sure you have the safety off first." She pulled open the compartment where she'd stashed a couple of blasters away in case of emergency, and put the power cartridge in before handing it over, nice and safely. "They're actually much easier than a lot of weapons."

"Got it," he said, taking the blaster. "You should see the guns I'm used to. Had to load your own powder and shot. Very time consuming."

"What do you do if you have to rapid fire?" Rey wondered.

Wow, she remembered a time that wasn't even a question she would have thought of.

"You hope you have a second gun on you," he said. "Otherwise there's no such thing."

"Wow." She actually had a hard time imagining that. "Well, if there's any issue here it will go faster than that."

"That's a relief," he said with a small smile. "Ready?"

"Yeah," she nodded. "Let's go rescue a guy."
