A restaurant on the mainland- Saturday evening

One year ago today, Rey made one of her best decisions ever and sent a middle-of-the-night text to the hot pirate across the hall.

So tonight she and Silver were on what was maybe their second official date of their relationship, on the mainland, blending in among the locals in clothes any couple from Earth in 2021 might wear. (Rey had decided jeans weren't her favorite but they did look good.) She'd even made reservations for the first time ever, and after they'd gotten seated at a booth in the corner, she admitted, "This looked different on the website."

She would never say it was tacky. But it was maybe not the ambiance she'd intended for an anniversary.

Silver didn't mind dressing in modern clothes all that much, and he had to admit Anakin was right about hoodies. Jeans were unnecessarily tight, but he'd be willing to deal with that discomfort if it meant Rey was also in tight pants.

"What did it look like on the website?" he asked.

"Mostly it was pictures of food, and the bar," Rey told him. "I guess it's hard to get a picture from that."

"I'm having a hard time gauging the theme here." If Silver had been more in the know he would have realized that the "went to my grandma's attic and stuck everything in there on the walls" had been the traditional decorating technique for classy places like TGI Fridays, Applebees and Ruby Tuesdays for years.

"I've been a couple places where they've put things like collections from their travels on the walls," Rey said, looking around. "...I don't know if that's what they're doing?"

"That kind of makes sense," he said, looking up at the canoes and snowshoes tacked up against the walls. "At least the food looks good?"

At least it did on the menu.

"It does," she agreed, "which is the second most important thing next to getting a night out together."

Honestly if it was McDonald's she wouldn't care that much.

Silver smiled. "How very romantic of you."

"I can manage it sometimes," Rey smiled. "It's a big thing."

Most of her life had been spent counting the days from bad things happening, it was important when you had a good thing instead.

"It is," he agreed. "Longest relationship I've ever had."

"Did you think we'd actually get this far?" Rey asked.

[long_memory]

"Never really thought about it, to be honest. Thinking about the future really isn't my thing," he said with a shrug. "But I am impressed with your ability to put up with me for a year."

"It has really not been hard at all," Rey told him. "You've been nothing but wonderful to me."

"The feeling is mutual," he said. "I don't wear jeans for just anybody."

"You do look good in them though," she had to say. She liked the piratewear, but she was happy with this for a night.

"You do too," Silver said. "Very formfitting."

Of course he liked that.

Turns out she could still blush a little when he said things like that. "Your opinion might have been a factor when shopping."

There were like eight hundred kinds of jeans. Had to narrow it down somehow.

"I just wanted to make sure you wouldn't be embarrassed by me when I picked out my clothes," he laughed.

"Not possible," Rey assured him. "I don't know that I'd know what an embarrassing outfit even was."

"The stares might have given it away." Though a lot of people in here were wearing sweatpants and leggings, so.

"Then I still wouldn't have cared," she admitted.

"I wouldn't have cared much either," he said with a smile. "Now, do I want the burger covered in three kinds of cheese or the one covered in onion rings?"

Food in this century was so excessive, it was great.

"I'll get one and you can get the other?"

Great relationships knew how to compromise.

"See, this is why I love you." Burger sharing, of course.

"This specifically?" she teased.

"Yep," he said. "Just because of the burger thing."
