MCA #1- Monday morning

Rey was a pretty open book and would talked about her traumas pretty casually most of the time, but as it turned out having to actually revisit that time was much harder. That was probably why she was really focused on making coffee at the moment, because she wasn't really sure how to just have a normal day today. Coffee at least gave her something to concentrate on and that wasn't that.

Silver, who was pretty much an expert on labeling the past as inconsequential, couldn't actually say he understood where Rey was coming from right now. However, he'd have to be a total idiot to not see she was upset.

"Do you want me to go out and get the coffee with all the sugar in it?" he asked.

"No, that's okay," she said, looking back at him. "We have sugar here I can put in."

And that could take up several seconds of time!

Silver nodded, going to grab a couple of mugs out of the cupboard. "How are you feeling?"

She almost said she was fine, and then decided against it. "Not great," she admitted. "It'll be okay. Today's just a lot."

"I get that," he said with a nod. "It's hard to be confronted with something you've moved on from."

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah," she said quietly. "Especially when you didn't exactly realize at the time how bad it really was."

And when you spent the weekend looking forward to the return of people who were never coming back, and who'd sold her off probably with the intention of never coming back.

"Coping mechanism," Silver said, setting a mug down beside Rey before leaning in to press a kiss against her temple. "You do what you have to do to survive, even if it means being in denial about some things."

Trust him, he was an expert.

"Yeah. Feels stupid in retrospect," she admitted, turning towards him.

"It's not stupid," he said. "Just naïve, which children are supposed to be."

It wasn't until later when you were beaten down by life do you get that sort of wisdom.

"I held onto it until a couple years ago," she pointed out.

Silver shrugged a shoulder. "Some of us figure it out later than others."

"I suppose the important thing is that I figured it out at all," she said. "Sorry I'm depressing today."

"It's understandable. The island didn't really prepare you to deal with that," Silver said. "Not something I would want to deal with either."

"I'm sure," Rey said, pouring the coffee. She'd imagine it would be harder for him, considering how much he didn't deal with it at all. "I'm trying to shake it off."

Or not deal with it.

"That was going to be my recommendation," he said with a small smile. "I just wasn't sure how to word it."

You know, without seeming like an insensitive jackass.

"You can just tell me to suck it up," Rey said with a wry smile.

Silver laughed lightly and moved to put his arm around her waist. "Suck it up then."

Thank god Rey had other people in her life to offer healthier advice.

"How dare you tell me that," she teased, sliding an arm around him back.

[long_memory]

"Oh, was the previous comment entrapment?" he joked.

[thatwaslucky]

"Yes. But I also probably needed to hear it," she told him.

"I was going to give you today to be sad about it," he said. "Then I was going to get really strict tomorrow."

"Oh, you were going to get strict," she repeated.

[long_memory]

"I've been known to be strict," he said. "But mostly in the sense of shouting nautical terms at other men."

[thatwaslucky]

"Unfortunately I don't think nautical terms would have worked on me," she told him.

[long_memory]

"No, I didn't think so," he said with a grin. "Which is why I'm glad we discussed this before tomorrow."

He gave her shoulder a squeeze before moving to get his own coffee. "You are allowed to be mopey today, you know."

"I know," she said. "It just.... doesn't solve anything. I'd love to not think about it and get mopier."

"I understand," he said. "If you want we can totally make this a distraction day and not mention it."

[thatwaslucky]

"Can we make it a distraction day?"

There were things she was sure she could get out through training, but she also didn't really want to be alone today. Not after being reminded of how much time she'd spent being alone.

"Of course," he said, kissing her on the cheek. "We can go out."

Oh you know he was concerned when he suggested going out of the house and wasn't even talking about going to a bar.

That was a surprise to her too. "Am I that bad?"

"A little, for you," he admitted. "You were staring very intently at the coffee machine."

[thatwaslucky]

"Some days you really need coffee," she tried.

She'd made it and then had none.

"I mean, you have been without it for a couple days," he allowed. "But I don't think it was all that."

[thatwaslucky]

"It was something to do for a little while," she said.

[long_memory]

"Well now we'll figure out other ways to occupy your time," Silver said.

[thatwaslucky]

"All right," she nodded. "How should we do that?"

[long_memory]

"Go out, take a walk on the town," Silver suggested. "Hopefully not get ambushed by something weird."

[thatwaslucky]

"As long as we don't run into anyone I saw this weekend." She was going to get pity faces, and that was the exact opposite of what they were going for.

"If we see any of them coming I'll shield you," he said. "Or we can go in disguise and wear our 21st century clothes."

No one would eeeeeever know it was them.

"I'm pretty sure that would actually draw more attention to us here, Rey smiled.

Silver laughed. "Okay, our regular clothes it is then."

But with added layers because neither of them were good with cold.

"All right," she said. "I'll trust you on this."

She didn't know that she wanted to be out, but he seemed to think it would help.
