MCA #1- Wednesday evening

For whatever reason, the Skywalker-Solos- including adoptees- had rough Augusts. Rey herself had lost four people in that month a couple years apart. Which was why in talking to Anakin, they'd decided maybe they needed to get people together for some commiseration. Also drinking.

Rey didn't have people over very often but it wasn't like there was a ton of stuff to clean in her stupid-giant apartment. As long as the kitchen worked and there were places to sit (the furniture was mostly mermaid!) it was probably fine.


[For said Skywalker-Solos. Because we have spent a lot, a lot of years being mean.]

"I suppose he thought that I would never confront Vader, or if I did, it would never come up," Luke said.

"It didn't really sound like there was anyone else." Though most of what she knew was secondhand at best.

Luke nodded. "It was me or Leia, really, and I had the training."

"It's a rough position to be in. And then having a bombshell dropped like that." SHE SAID, KNOWINGLY.

"I think I need a drink to go through this," Luke said with a small smile, "and a comfortable spot to sit. You've really never heard this? I don't want to bore you."

"I have both of those," she said, gesturing to the rest of the giant place. "I didn't get to talk to my Luke much about it."

"I don't mind talking," Luke said with a little smile. "It's not news to most people here."

"Do you want to get your drink and sit?" Rey asked.

[tatooine_doofus]

"Please," Luke said, wandering off for a moment and returning with very strong whiskey.

Rey had found a spot to sit on the one not-mermaid sofa and waited for him to come back.

"So," she said.

[tatooine_doofus]

"So," Luke echoed with a smile, "I was on Bespin, mounting a one half-trained Jedi rescue attempt for Han and Leia against Yoda's advice. He told me that I was feeling their pain because Vader was setting a trap for me to disrupt my training." His lips quirked up. "Yoda was correct, but I couldn't not go."

"I'd do the exact same thing," she said, immediately, because she had. "It doesn't feel like the Jedi thing to not."

"It doesn't," Luke agreed, "but I was greatly outmatched by Vader." His lips quirked up humorlessly. "Everyone was. You've seen him fight?"

"I have," she said. "Vader at his peak would be..."

[tatooine_doofus]

"Terrifying," Luke said, nodding.

[thatwaslucky]

"I've heard that's how..." She glanced at his hand.

[tatooine_doofus]

Luke nodded, turning his hand in its black glove. "And after he did that, he told me who he was."

Anakin had amazing timing.

"There's no way to respond well to that," she said simply.

[tatooine_doofus]

"That's why I went with screaming," Luke agreed.

"What about after?" Rey asked.

[tatooine_doofus]

"It took a lot of time after," Luke admitted. "I needed to become reconciled to the new reality. It's not every day that you find out your father is the person used to scare children into bed across the entire galaxy. I didn't tell anyone else, but I really thought about why he had told me and came to the conclusion that he didn't really want to be Vader. There was still some good in there." He smiled. "And that changed the course of history."

"How long did it take you to... cope with everything?" she wondered.

[tatooine_doofus]

"I'm still coping," Luke said with a tiny smile. "Our...heritage...isn't widely known and people still don't have a lot of nice things to say about Darth Vader."

Rey paused, and asked, "Has Anakin told you about me?"

Luke shook his head, eyes fixed on hers. "He doesn't tend to share."
