MCA #1- Tuesday afternoon

While Rey was definitely not new here, this was the first year she'd really experienced the last week or so this way. Pollen had always been a frustration before, and the kids she'd had had been impossible in ways that meant it was harder to get too attached. It was a little different when there was a possibility, even if Cerra probably wasn't ever happening either, and it was making for a weird Tuesday.

Rey had taken these thoughts, bottled them up, spent twice as long training in a futile effort to make up for last week, and then felt like she got back to her apartment too early. Well, she could always put away the things they'd "cleaned up" by shoving them out of sight when the girls showed up...

Honestly, she really liked him walking in like that.

"Congratulations," Rey said with a little smile. "I feel like I'm forgetting a location where we shoved things."

"I'm sure we'll find something somewhere we forgot about in a few months," he said, smiling. "It's oddly quiet in here now."

Jamie had been a quiet child, but Cerra made up for it.

"It is," she agreed, and wrinkled her nose a little. "I don't know how I feel about that."

The quiet meant thoughts, at the very least.

"I understand what you mean," he said. "It was...a more pleasant experience than I imagined."

"You turned out to be pretty good with kids," Rey pointed out.

[long_memory]

"I know. It's weird, right?" It was weird to him, anyway.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm not surprised," Rey said, making her way to the couch. "You're good with people. Kids are people."

[long_memory]

"I guess so," he said, joining her on the couch. He always thought children would be harder to talk to since he couldn't really relate to their experiences. It wasn't like he had much of a childhood to compare it to.

"You did pretty well yourself."

Speaking of not having a childhood to relate to...

"Kids are easy," she said, immediately leaning in against him. "I've always kind of found if you just show interest in them they're fine."

"This was really the first time I've spent a lot of time with them," he admitted. "But you've been through this before, right? Who did you have kids with before?"

"Um. Fandom's version of Luke and who I now know to be Kylo Ren."

Yeah. This year was different.

"Wow. That last one must have been...interesting." Sure, that was a word for it.

[thatwaslucky]

"I still worry about that one sometimes," Rey admitted. "And it was while I was in school, so I hadn't even met him yet. Interesting is... a word for it."

[long_memory]

"I don't think that's something you have to worry about now," Silver said.

[thatwaslucky]

"No, that is definitely not happening," Rey said with a little laugh, and paused. "The aftermath of the weekend is stranger when you can't look at the situation and definitively say it'll never happen."

"It is," he agreed. He would have been lying if he said there was absolutely no way Cerra wouldn't happen in the future. Or Jamie, for that matter. He ended up in Fandom randomly, there was no way of knowing whether or not he'd end up back in the 1700's just as quickly.

"At least they were good kids, so it's not like something to dread."

"I would not have expected that from you," Rey admitted.

"Is that a good or a bad thing?" he teased.

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't hate it," she answered, smiling. "Is that weird?"

[long_memory]

"No, I don't think so," he said with a slight smile. "I don't think it's weird if you don't think its weird."

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't think it's weird," she decided, smiling. "How was it having Jamie around for you?"

[long_memory]

"It was a surprise and not a surprise all at once?" he tried. "I mean, her showing up at all was surprising, but it wasn't surprise that she was a possibility."

"Were you and Madi that serious?" Rey wondered.

[long_memory]

"Things worked a little differently back then. And even then, it worked differently than the rest of the world." It's not like pirates abided by normal courting rituals.

He thought about it for a long moment before responding, "But, yes, I suppose we were that serious. I loved her, and I believe she loved me."

Was that a little weird to hear? Yes and no. It wasn't like she didn't know he had a life before her. "Can I ask why you broke up?"
