The Falcon was, in fact, returned the same day, albeit a little worse for wear. Rey had no idea who Hondo had recruited to fly her ship but they had no business in there. There were a lot of repairs that had to be made, both to the hull and the weirdly sparking areas inside, including one that was far too close to a porg nest for her liking.

After spending much longer than she wanted on making sure they were set to fly, Chewie's apology came in the form of finishing up while she and Silver got to actually head out on their own for a while, leaving him and BB-8 behind. And all right, the closest place to eat wasn't actually that far from where they were parked, but that was not the point.

"Sorry about all that," Rey said as they found seats. "I kind of expected that all this would have gone at least a little smoother."

"Well, he did lend out the ship to a smuggler," Rey pointed out. "But I'm sure he's had things to say about me, too."

"I probably have a lot in common with that smuggler," Silver said. "So I can't really hold it against him."

"I phrased that badly," Rey admitted. "Chewie's a smuggler himself. But neither of you subcontracted out the flying to people who put dents in my ship."

"The dents can be fixed, right?" he said. "No harm done."

Of course he'd side with the smuggler.

"It can always be fixed, but it's more work for me if we want to leave with a ship that works correctly," she pointed out.

[long_memory]

"It is going to work correctly, right?" Because he was still iffy about this whole flying thing.

[thatwaslucky]

"It will. Even if we have to jury rig some things," she assured him. "That thing can take a beating."

She loved that ship.

[long_memory]

"It is pretty impressive," Silver admitted. "And I like watching you fly it."

[thatwaslucky]

"You do, huh?" sge asked, smiling.

[long_memory]

"Yeah, I do," Silver said. "You're talented."

[thatwaslucky]

"Thank you." She actually took comments on her flying more to heart than the Jedi stuff. "I don't get to do it nearly enough, but I love it."

[long_memory]

"I can tell," Silver said with a smile. "There isn't much opportunity to do it in Fandom, is there? And even if there was we're all horses or cowboys half the time."

"There really isn't. I suppose I could ask to borrow Summer's ship, but it's not the same," Rey said. "And I don't know if we're horses or cowboys half the time..."

Maybe a third.

"We're horses and cowboys more than I'd like." He would prefer it to be zero percent of the time.

"This is true," Rey agreed. "Maybe we can get a break and just be us for a while."

[long_memory]

"That would be nice," Silver said. "This is fairly normal. I mean, aside from the smuggler taking your ship thing."

[thatwaslucky]

"See, it's a good first planet," Rey smiled. "Most of the people here don't even know what we're doing, as far as I know. They're just going about their lives around us."

[long_memory]

"It isn't so different than the island." More aliens, sure, but overall it was nearly the same. "Do you have to do this often--check out bases and all that?"

"Not yet, but I might have to going forward," she told him. "We're getting bigger, but we started out very small. The whole Resistance fit on that ship. This is only the second base that I know of. I've heard rumors of a third. But if we can grow, there might be more of this."

[long_memory]

"And the bigger you grow, the more of a chance of being found out." There would always be someone out there willing to sell information--even if it was to clearly evil people like the First Order.

Silver himself was one of those people given the right circumstances.

"That's why General Organa wants us to stay scattered. Build things up slowly from all around the galaxy. I know they're working on a location that could support all of us, but this place for instance is to find supporters," she explained.

[long_memory]

"Ah, makes sense," Silver said. "We were just trying to take over the one island so that makes things easier. We just left some men behind to build up the myth of Captain Flint and Long John Silver to get people on our side."

That actually wasn't unlike what was going to end up happening here, though Rey wouldn't know about it yet.

"How'd that work out?" she wondered.

[long_memory]

"Pretty well. They're scared enough of Flint to not side with England," Silver said. "And they like me enough to believe whatever I tell them."

"Is that something I should take as a warning?" Rey asked, only half joking.

The thing was, she actually trusted him enough to think he'd be honest there.
