The Millennium Falcon- Saturday

While the general vibe of the last day on Anoat had been anxiety, today was relief. They'd gotten away safely, no evidence of their months on the planet left for the First Order to discover. Most of the Resistance members were on the other ship, though Chewie, Leia and Rose stayed on the Falcon. Rey had plotted their course through hyperspace and had put the ship on autopilot, and today was kind of a day to just chill out on a space ship.

There were things to do. There was a lounge area with a dejarik table if you wanted to learn a new game, and another with a mostly empty bar and a sound system that Rey had literally never touched. If you felt like geeking out over tech, someone might put you to work. No, you can't fly the ship. Yes, you can sit there. No, seriously, don't touch anything.

Annie had opted to take a blanket and curl up in a corner of the lounge last night, rather than try to figure out a more elegant sleeping situation since it looked like space was kind of at a premium and she figured could deal. She was only kind of right, since she was paying for it today with a stiff neck and bleary eyes, though the caf was helping. (Magic space coffee continued to be amazing.)

She was going to be curled up in her little blanket nest for at least a little bit while she woke up, here, nursing a cup of caf and sending texts.

"You look comfortable," Rey noted.

At least it looked that way to a girl who'd spent most of her life sleeping on a metal floor in a blanket nest.

"I'm doing my best," Annie said with a little smile, holding up her caf in a salute. "Magic space coffee continues to be awesome."

Seriously, she might need to like, bring caf back for herself.

"We just call it caf here," Rey said with a little smile. "And it's probably not magic."

"Well, caf sure feels magic, anyway," Annie assured her. "How are you doing with all the - everything? I didn't really get a chance to check in with you yesterday."

Beyond the translation help with Chewie, anyway.

"I'm doing okay." And she actually mostly meant that today. It didn't feel over somehow, but that immediate tension was gone. "We got out. And I'm looking forward to seeing the new base."

"Do you know anything about this new planet?" Annie asked curiously, scooting over and making room for Rey in the blanket nest if she wanted. "It's gotta be an improvement over the trash planet, right?"

Both because of the trash and the imminent danger! But, like, especially the trash.

Annie, that was the cutest thing, and of course Rey had to get in the blanket nest now.

"Probably. I haven't heard any warnings about it, anyway," Rey said. "I don't know much about it, aside from things Finn has told me. I think it's forest there?"

Rey just seemed like maybe she could use some time in a blanket nest, okay.

"Then definitely an improvement over a planet that is, like, a dump. No offense." Like, that was just reality. "And also hopefully a lot safer, by the sounds of it. And there's people already there?"

"I think some are arriving today. We've been pretty scattered around the galaxy for a while. Having a central base means people can come to pool resources again," Rey explained. "I'm sure I'll get a message when Finn and Poe get there."

"But like people have scouted this new base out?" Annie added, just to be sure. "It's not, like, full of bad guys or spiders or anything?"

She did not want to deal with space spiders, thank you.

No, that was Atollon. And Mado Kreis. And...

"People have scouted it," Rey confirmed. "I think General Organa's known about it for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised about the creatures, but the pit beast on Anoat was harmless."

As long as Rey wasn't antagonizing it when she was in a bad mood, which she felt really bad about now.

"Pit beast," Annie echoed, raising her eyebrows. "Man, between the pit beast and Chewie, I'm really learning to just, like, expect the unexpected in terms of what kind of stuff lives in space."

It was a big galaxy, so. It probably wasn't that surprising that there was some variation.

"I'm still learning a lot of it myself," Rey admitted. "I didn't see much aside from whoever came to Jakku for a long time. I'm used to Wookiees, though, I've met plenty of them."

"What's Jakku like?" Annie wondered. "Full of Wookiees?"

Annie would probably love Kashyyyk.

"All desert. Hot, but freezing at night. The last battle of the previous war was fought there, so everyone survives by scavenging the wreckages and selling the parts," Rey explained. "We got traders sometimes, though. I learned Shyriiwook because the Wookiees who'd stop in had all the best stories."

"I bet," Annie agreed, looking over at New BFF Chewie. "But that's - huh. I mean, climate-wise, there's some places out west that I think are like that, but the scavenging thing sounds like...hmm. On the one hand, like, maybe kind of interesting for history reasons, but on the other...tough way to make a living." Tough and unpredictable, if Annie had to guess.

"You could say that." And yet it was going to probably forever influence how she looked at the galaxy and even how she spent her free time. "It's not really sustainable, in the long term. Everyone competing for the same things just to get the basics."

"And I don't suppose there's any kind of, like, unifying government to help out with that kind of thing?" Annie asked. "Or is that kind of what we're fighting for, here?"

"Jakku's on its own," Rey admitted, which she had more feelings about now than she did when she lived there. "When it comes to what government happens after this... I have no idea. The main thing is to get the First Order out before they do more damage."

"I mean, your general seems like she'd make a good...I dunno, president of the galaxy," Annie offered with a little smile. "When everything's settled. 'Cause these First Order guys kind of sound like the sort of people who aren't going to - leave things in the best shape, I guess."

"I don't know if she'd want to do that, but she'd be excellent." Leia had at the very least earned the break if she wanted it. "The First Order is... They've destroyed worlds. I don't know what's left if they keep going the way they are."

"What's their point?" Annie was too tired to get all that heated about it right now, but that was...wasteful. "I mean, it doesn't sound like conquest, if they're destroying worlds rather than occupying or something."

"Domination through terror?" Rey shrugged. "It's easier to make everyone fall in line when they're too scared to fight. At least that's what the point was. Now I think it's just to lash out."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"So it's like a galaxy-wide tantrum, now?" Annie asked skeptically. "I guess if you've made them mad, that's kind of a good thing. That sounds like they feel threatened."
